Disputes over the use of water in Nebraska have been described as the issue of the century. Mattson Ricketts is on the leading edge in representing parties before the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources ("DNR") and in court cases on water issues. The firm provides counsel to one of the largest public power and irrigation districts in the State, rural water districts, municipalities, farmers, ranchers and landowners in procuring and defending water rights. As part of its water practice, the firm also represents litigants in disputes seeking to establish boundaries to accretion and riparian ground. Attorneys Steve Mossman and Kelly Hoffschneider regularly present at seminars involving water issues. Steve is also the author of one of the leading law review articles on Nebraska water law, "Whiskey is For Drinkin' but Water is for Fightin' About: A First Hand Account of Nebraska's Integrated Management of Ground and Surface Water Debate and the Passage of L. B. 108", 30 Creighton L. Rev. 67 (1996).
